The 2008 BWCA National Girls' Championships for age-groups under 8 to under 14 will be held on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th February, at the Elmbank Hotel in York. The Women's Rapidplay, which incorporates the Under 16 and Under 21 Championships, will take place on Sunday 10th February at the same venue:

Designed to provide an opportunity for women players to play chess in a supportive environment, the weekend features coaching from WGM Jovanka Houska and a friendly tournament for family of competitors.

   
 
The English Chess Federation are organising another one of their excellent coaching and tournament days, to be held at Fulham Prep School, London on the 19th January 2008. The entry form is here.
   
 

The English Chess Federation is delighted to announce that in partnership with the South African company Chess Cube it is to launch a bespoke online ECF chess club.

From 10am on Monday 3rd December players can register and play at the new ECF online chess club, membership of which is completely free.

The Girls' Day School Trust Inter-Trust Championships took place at Oxford High School on the 20th January, with girls and boys coming from as far afield as The Belvedere School, Liverpool. 15 of the Trust schools were represented and it was a pleasure to see so many children playing for their schools.

LONDON HOSTS THE 1ST INTERNATIONAL ICE CHESS GAME

Thursday 11th January saw Trafalgar Square, London and Pushkin Square, Moscow host the 1st international ice chess match, with giant 64 square meter chess boards with intricately designed ice chess pieces, replicating famous London and Moscow landmarks.

 

The London king - Big Ben

Team London was captained by Grandmaster Nigel Short and included junior champion Darius Parvizi-Wayne and author Peter Ackroyd, whilst team Moscow was lead by the legendary Anatoly Karpov.

A live satellite link allowed the game to be played in real time and the London compere GM Danny King entertained the London spectators.

The Girls' Day School Trust (GDST) is the largest group of independent schools in the UK, with 3,500 staff and over 20,000 students between the ages of 3 and 18.

The 3rd Inter-Trust Chess Championships will be held at Oxford High School on the 20th January 2007 and is open to all GDST pupils. We hope to see pupils from all of the GDST schools at this important event.
